What’s next: After UNLV Shooting, here’s What Students and Faculty Should Expect

NEW YORK (KLAS) — Three people were killed, one was taken to the hospital, and the shooter was killed. This stopped UNLV students and staff from doing their normal activities Wednesday. After the police action, many people are wondering what will happen next.

UNLV officials said at 7:38 a.m. Wednesday that the active danger on the school’s campus was over and that all shelter-in-place orders had been lifted.

The Reunification Center, which was set up by police, school staff and teachers, helped students who were having trouble because of the shooting and police activity in the area. Clark County officials promised to help with food, shelter, transportation, and therapy.

At about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Reunification Center stopped being used. It had helped hundreds of students, workers, and worried family members after the shooting.

Clark County officials, LVMPD officials, and UNLV staff and teachers were all working together Wednesday night to get students back to their homes. People from the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada who live on campus and were at the Family Reunification and Assistance Center were taken back to their homes by bus.

A text message will be sent to everyone on campus with information on how and when to pick up personal items that were left behind during the event.

The following buildings are off limits: Beam Hall, the Flora Dungan Humanities Building, the Student Union, Wright Hall buildings A, B, and C, and the UNLV bookstore. These buildings are close to where the killing happened.

Classes, activities related to school, and activities connected to the performing arts have all been canceled until Sunday.

On Thursday and Friday, faculty and staff will work from home. However, based on their job, some staff may be asked to work from the office.

People will be able to get care at the UNLV Health clinical office and dental practice.

As of tomorrow, December 7, Student Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) will offer crisis support services to students both in person and through video. People who need help can get in touch with support services at 702-895-3627 or [email protected].

The Faculty and Staff Treatment (FAST) Center is going to be open and offers all kinds of medical care. To find out more, interested people can call (702) 895-3370.
