Standoff ends with Arrest of Portsmouth Man

THE PORTSMOUTH— A report of a strange car at a home on Dorman Drive led to a standoff with a person who was known to the police in the area.

At about 4:21 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, the owner of the newly bought property at 2750 Dorman Drive reported a strange car. The owner of the house asked the Portsmouth Police to check it out before they tried to get in.

When the police got there, they saw Aaron Armstrong, 30, running back into the house. He was said to have broken into the house by force. Scioto County Sheriff’s Office records show that Armstrong was wanted for a felony, and police told him to leave the house, but he refused. Instead, he locked himself inside the house.

Armstrong was known to have a number of handguns on him. Police called Portsmouth SWAT, and after a three-hour battle, they were able to arrest Armstrong without any more problems. During the event, no one was badly hurt.

Earlier this year, the person was charged with breaking and entering, drug possession, criminal tool possession, receiving stolen property, and misdemeanor theft, burglary, and blocking government business. Since then, more charges have been added. He is going to be tried in Scioto County Court of Common Pleas on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
